Okay, okay, I'm a dog person. You’ve got me. I also love creating beautiful things. So I can’t think of a better way to spend my time than drawing dog portraits of people's pooches.

I have drawn so many different dogs over the past few years: Whippets, Rhodesian Ridgebacks, Maltese Shitzus, Kelpies... the list goes on and on.

My dog portraits are created using Artist-quality pencils and media. I use lightfast coloured pencils for coloured portraits and either charcoal or graphite pencils for black and white. 

A drawing is only ever as good as the paper it is drawn on and so I only use archival, acid free paper to ensure a high quality long lasting result.

I work from photos so getting the best reference is the aim of the game. Sometimes this may not be possible (e.g. with older photos), but it's still achievable to create something beautiful from these. The more photo options the better, then we can decide which image will create the best portrait.

I get so much joy in the creation of dog portraits. I spend 10 hours on a black and white portrait and usually over 20 hours on a colour pencil portrait! Where possible I capture the process as a time-lapse and provide these to my customers free of charge.

Once completed, your drawing is packaged up ready for free pick-up, or flat rate shipping ($15 for A3 and below sizes). All portraits are priced unframed, but I am happy to quote and arrange for framing if desired. I work with a wonderful local framer.

Is the portrait a gift? I can add gift wrapping and a custom card with your own special message for a small fee.

Obviously detail and lighting are important but don’t forget about pose and personality! If I can see your dog's personality, then I can draw it. Sometimes there is no one perfect photo, only a handful of blurry, silly or aged ones. If that’s all you have, then I will work as hard as I can to capture your beloved pet for you.
